Localitatea se află la distanța de 50 km de orașul Hîncești și la 80 km de Chișinău. La recensămîntul din anul 2004, populaţia satului constituia 4995 de locuitori. Satul Mingir a fost menționat documentar în anul 1482 cu denumirea Gura Ocoalelor.
